Barça willing to go even further into debt to sign a Real Madrid castoff

The strategy of the blaugrana bosses is starting to raise some doubts

Real Madrid faces a summer transfer window after its signings made to expand the squad available to Xabi Alonso, much calmer than it seems. The executives led by Florentino Pérez, despite the requests from the Tolosa coach, have decided to wait until next summer.

One of those signings is Álvaro Carreras. The Benfica left-back arrives at Santiago Bernabéu locker room with the goal of strengthening a position affected by injuries and lack of players over the past two seasons. He was not the first player considered to add more depth to the first team, not even when negotiations with the Portuguese side were already underway.

Because the dynamics and negotiations of that transfer were much more complicated than initially desired. It could only be solved after the Club World Cup, a competition in which Benfica wanted to participate with one of Bruno Lage's top-level stars in its squad. Doubts about Álvaro Carreras's arrival kept open the possibility that players like Alejandro Grimaldo would be chosen by the white board.

The consolidation of the new Madridist '18' signing, however, meant that the Bayer Leverkusen left-back was completely ruled out. Although it was a signing that even Xabi Alonso had recommended, since he knows the player well from his time at the werkself club, he considers Álvaro Carreras a better option.

Moves away from the main rival

Real Madrid, therefore, has definitively moved away from the possibility of acquiring the Bayer Leverkusen left-back. Ruled out by Real Madrid, the former FC Barcelona youth player could return to the Catalan capital in that announced effort to return to LaLiga. Grimaldo himself admitted to having that goal when he was still on the white club's radar.

The information published by "El Nacional" indicates that the blaugrana team wants to recover the services of this player trained at La Masia so many years ago. However, the critical economic and financial situation of the club presided over by Joan Laporta makes it impossible to carry out this hypothetical transfer under the usual conditions.

The aforementioned Catalan outlet reveals that the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo would only be possible if the blaugrana sporting management manages the departure of several footballers. The names of Iñaki Peña, Oriol Romeu, or Andreas Christensen are the most frequently mentioned in this regard, given their modest role in the competitive dynamics established by HansiFlick.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona would seek to perform new balancing acts with the intention of allowing itself the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo, all the signings of the white club this summer are already properly registered. The bosses led by Florentino Pérez know that they are bordering the limit of permitted spending... so they will not compromise the strength of the Merengue treasury under any circumstances.
