The signing leading the race for Xabi Alonso if Dani Ceballos leaves
The native of Tolosa has already named a replacement to fill the spot left by the native of Utrera
Dani Ceballos has shaken up Madridist news in the final stretch of the transfer market. It seemed that with Rodrygo starting, the possible departure of the Brazilian was off the table and everything had calmed down. They were preparing for the last week of August with no pending matters.
But Ceballos blew everything up with his farewell post after playing against Oviedo. Negotiations with Olympique de Marseille began, but it seems it won't be easy. At this moment, there is no agreement and it doesn't seem that the parties are very close.

Real Madrid wants a sale for 15 million euros or a loan with a mandatory purchase option. This is something the Marseille side doesn't seem willing to accept, which complicates his possible departure. Even so, they are still negotiating to see if it's possible to finalize his departure this week.
If that happens, Thiago Pitarch is the player chosen by Xabi Alonso to take his place. He believes they should promote him so he can officially be part of the first team. That way, they can have him in training and gradually shape him to bring out all his quality.
The club doesn't see Thiago Pitarch's promotion entirely clearly
It's true that Xabi Alonso has shown he's going to bet on young players from the start. Arda Güler, Gonzalo, or Mastantuono have experienced this firsthand at the start of the season. So trusting Pitarch to take Ceballos's spot doesn't seem far-fetched.

However, the club doesn't see everything clearly and will keep an eye on the market in case an opportunity arises. They think the best thing would be to bring in a midfielder with more experience. Especially with the Champions League in mind, where they're going to need to have the best squad possible.
For now, everything is on hold, waiting to see what happens with Ceballos and if he finally leaves. If that comes to pass, it will be time to make the final decision. Either they trust Pitarch or they close a last-minute signing for the midfield.
