The fact that explains why the season was so bad: a negative record matched

In the last campaign, Real Madrid conceded a very high number of goals

The tough defeat against Paris Saint-Germain marked the end of a rather negative season for Real Madrid. The white squad, under Xabi Alonso's orders, was eliminated in the match corresponding to the semifinals of the Club World Cup

In addition to the 4-0 loss against the French club, Real Madrid has suffered several negative results this season. In a list of the ten worst scores in the club's recent history, four are from the campaign that just ended.

A season with heavy defeats

Number ten on the aforementioned list is the 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. Two goals from Declan Rice and one from Mikel Merino sealed the fate of the whites, who couldn't come back at Santiago Bernabéu.

In seventh place is the thrashing received in the final of the Spanish Super Cup against FC Barcelona (2-5). The Culers scored five goals, four of which came in the first half.

In third place appears, once again, another match against the Culers. Barça scored four goals against Real Madrid (0-4) in a clash in which the white team missed too many chances in its favor. That night, Kylian Mbappé was caught offside several times.

Finally, the last score from the 24/25 season on the list is the 4-0 against Paris Saint-Germain. The thrashing received last Wednesday ranks second on the list, behind a 5-1 against Barça.

The season with the most goals conceded

For the most part, this type of score has caused the 2024/25 season to be the campaign with the most goals conceded since the 98/99 season.

That season, Real Madrid conceded a total of 89 goals in all competitions. The figure in question was matched after the fourth goal by Paris Saint-Germain, scored by Gonçalo Ramos.

Therefore, it is clear that one of Xabi Alonso's tasks is to prevent Real Madrid from conceding so many goals. With a solid defense, the team will gradually keep growing more and more.
