Javier Tebas's Reply about Playing El Clásico Outside of Spain: 'Real...'
The proposal made by Barcelona is one of the most talked-about topics these days
One of the most striking issues in recent times in Spanish soccer is the situation facing FC Barcelona. Hansi Flick's pupils have a long way to go in LaLiga, where they are seven points behind the first-place team, Real Madrid. The Meringue entity has regained the distance from previous months. And is even about to apply the same point difference that Barça had over Madrid weeks ago.
In any case, one of the most important matches of the national competition is in question. The second leg of El Clásico in LaLiga, to be played at Barcelona's home stadium, could even be decided outside the borders of our country. That is exactly what the team presided over by Joan Laporta is considering.
Barça executives' huge miscalculation has caused the location where that game of the 35th round should be played not to be previously fixed. In theory, the prepared venue for such a match next May was the renovated Spotify Camp Nou. Judging by the progress of the renovations at the Les Corts stadium, it is an impossible and already completely discarded future.
The Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium can't be used either, where FC Barcelona now hosts all teams for their home games. The agreement with the Barcelona City Council expires in April, because the City Council of Barcelona has already scheduled the celebration of several concerts.
Incredible but true
The organizers of those events, as well as local authorities, have made it clear that there isn't much room to renegotiate the agreement... leaving FC Barcelona without a stadium to act as the home team for the last two months of the 24/25 season. From this ridiculous situation has come a proposal that even Javier Tebas has commented on in recent hours.
The president of LaLiga has considered the possibility of playing El Clásico outside of Spain "if the other club, Real Madrid, also approves it". Thus, Tebas makes it clear that a rejection by Madrid would mean that FC Barcelona must find a stadium within our country to be able to act as the home team.
The proposal "could be studied," says Tebas. In case the executives led by Florentino give the green light to 'export' El Clásico under these very particular circumstances. The statement from the head of LaLiga would, in a way, enable the idea proposed by Joan Laporta... pending the decision made by Real Madrid on this controversial matter.
The celebration of El Clásico in our country is in doubt due to the poor planning by the Catalan club in the renovations of the Spotify Camp Nou. This miscalculation not only jeopardizes this match but also the hosting of matches where Barcelona is the home team in the Champions or other competitions.
