Konaté's signing for Real Madrid, just $15M away: negotiations underway
Real Madrid and Liverpool are already negotiating, but it is not clear whether they will reach an agreement
Real Madrid usually gets us used to moves in the market even before it closes. That's how players like Ronaldo Nazario arrived back in the day or, more recently, Camavinga. Looking ahead to this summer, the one who seems to have the most chances would be Konaté.
Liverpool seems to take for granted that they won't achieve his contract renewal despite some reports. The Frenchman has rejected all the offers they've put forward. He would have decided that his future doesn't lie at Anfield but rather sees himself at Santiago Bernabéu.

That's why, according to what we've learned at Defensa Central, talks have already started. Liverpool has made its position clear that they won't sell him for less than €40 million. That's a bit far from the first offer Real Madrid has made for Konaté.
Los Blancos have put €25 million on the table to try to secure his services. A difference of €15 million that could end up unlocking the situation with the French center-back. Right now, it's not known where he'll play in the season that has just started.
Liverpool won't sell Konaté cheap to Real Madrid now
At Liverpool, they already take for granted that they aren't going to be able to renew Konaté no matter how much effort they make. In fact, they're already thinking about his replacements, they had signed Giovani Leoni as the first reinforcement. They're also after Crystal Palace's center-back, Marc Guehi.

However, despite these moves in the market, they aren't going to give in to Real Madrid. After what happened with Trent, they don't want Konaté to leave for the Whites at a low price. That's why they insist on that €40 million despite his contract situation.
They already did it in the last winter market, knowing they'd lose the English full-back for free. Despite that, they didn't agree to negotiate with Los Merengues to bring his signing forward to January. In Konaté's case, it seems they aren't going to accept selling him at a low price either.
