Lucas says 'No' to the most anticipated return, explains why he turned it down and will wait for offers

The reasons Lucas Vázquez has had for rejecting a LaLiga team after his departure from Real Madrid

After the Club World Cup, Real Madrid announced a farewell ceremony for Lucas Vázquez. After 18 years with the team, the right-back will leave the club he loves. His destination, so far, remains a mystery although, as we know at Defensa Central, Espanyol showed interest in his services.

The club has already had Lucas Vázquez in its ranks, with the player joining on loan more than a decade ago. While Espanyol offered him the chance to keep playing in LaLiga, Lucas turned down the offer for an important reason. The player doesn't want to risk having to play against Real Madrid after all the years he spent with the team.

That's why, for this summer, Lucas has been analyzing different offers. Although he has interest from Middle Eastern clubs, Lucas wants to keep playing in Europe. This desire hasn't stopped other leagues like MLS from trying to sign the Spaniard.

Lucas's rejection

Trained in Real Madrid's youth academy from 2007 to 2014, Lucas Vázquez left the club for Espanyol. Although it was only for one season, this time was enough for Lucas to develop as a player. When he returned to Real Madrid, Lucas was a much more experienced player and ready to face new challenges.

His departure from Real Madrid after not renewing his contract was seen as a great opportunity for Espanyol. After a season in which they managed to avoid relegation, the club is looking to make a leap in quality. Lucas, with all his experience, was seen as a possible leader for the team's sports project.

However, feelings have guided Lucas Vázquez's decision to rule out this option. At 34 years old, Lucas believes he still has the level to play in Europe. The only problem is that, so far, no interesting offer has arrived.

The fate of a legend

With the market still having several weeks to go, Lucas trusts he will get a good offer. For a right-back who has no less than 5 Champions League titles to his name, it shouldn't be a problem to find a competitive club.
