Neither Theo nor Kerkez: Madrid has a left-back if the Carreras deal goes awry

Real Madrid has Alejandro Grimaldo, a left-back whom Xabi Alonso has had at Leverkusen, on their radar

Real Madrid is still looking for a left-back to strengthen the squad. Mendy doesn't provide total security, and Fran García hasn't fully convinced yet. The favorite option remains Álvaro Carreras from Benfica.

However, his signing has become complicated. There are still details to be finalized, and the negotiation isn't progressing at the pace the club desires. Therefore, in Valdebebas, they are already considering alternatives. One stands out above the rest: Álex Grimaldo.

Grimaldo sends a nod to Real Madrid

The Bayer Leverkusen left-back has been one of the standout names of the season in Germany. In statements to El Partidazo de COPE, he made it clear that his future lies in Spain: "My club knows that my dream is to go to Spain," he confessed.

Additionally, he didn't hide his ambition: "I've had two unbelievable years at Leverkusen, but every player has their dreams." He added clearly: "Real Madrid is a giant. I have the goal of playing for a giant."

His performance with Xabi Alonso has been outstanding. He also spoke about the Basque coach, who will be the next coach of Madrid: "Xabi is approachable and demanding. He doesn't allow anyone to relax," he explained.

Furthermore, he valued his play style: "He works a lot on tactics, uses short videos, and adapts the system to each match."

A plan B that could end up being a starter

If Carreras's signing doesn't come to fruition, Grimaldo is a real alternative. He has experience, knows La Liga, has been an international, and is in full footballing maturity.

His release clause isn't prohibitive, and his desire to return to Spain makes things easier. Additionally, he would fit well into the style Xabi Alonso wants to implement.

In Valdebebas, they already value him as a profile ready to compete from day one. Most importantly: he wants to wear white.

With Carreras hanging in the air, Madrid isn't left without options. Grimaldo is ready. He himself has already raised his hand.
