Neither Xabi Alonso nor Zidane: The Two Alternatives to Ancelotti Managed by Real Madrid

The Future of the Reggiolo Coach Is Becoming More Adverse

One of the most affected by the double defeat against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals is Carlo Ancelotti. The instability of the Reggiolo coach's position has been a constant during the current soccer season, but the elimination from the top continental competition has only deepened those debates.

Meanwhile, many media outlets indicate that the Italian strategist's credit would run out if he loses the Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona. The match at the Sevillian stadium of La Cartuja would be decisive for the continuity of the transalpine coach... and Real Madrid is already working on a short-term replacement to ensure some stability in the first team.

The possible departure of Carlo Ancelotti in the final stretch of the current soccer season, even with only one title at stake and with slim chances of victory, remains relevant. That's why the executives led by Florentino Pérez have made a decision, pointing to two other workers in the Madrid hierarchy as possible replacements.

The two names currently being considered in the Valdebebas offices emerge thanks to the information handled by the newspaper As. According to this publication, Real Madrid would consider Santiago Solari, the director of soccer for the merengue squad, or Raúl González Blanco, the coach of Real Madrid Castilla, as replacements for Ancelotti.

Plan in Motion

This decision by Real Madrid, which would have warned both for their possible inclusion in the first team, would be confirmed or denied after Saturday, April 26. It will be then when Real Madrid faces FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, deciding the fate of Carlo Ancelotti. The Reggiolo coach would hold on until the end of the current league season and would give way to his replacement on the first team's bench.

Santiago Solari or Raúl González Blanco would take on that role during the Club World Cup, a competition that the merengue team would play between June 13 and July 13. Right after that new tournament, organized by FIFA, the white executives would rush to obtain confirmation of their new coach: Bayer Leverkusen's coach, Xabi Alonso.

That Club World Cup would be an excellent opportunity for Raúl González Blanco. The former '7' merengue has been several years at Real Madrid Castilla, waiting to earn the opportunity to follow in Zinédine Zidane's footsteps and coach the first team. While it is true that this desire would be fulfilled, the coach of the first white affiliate is not guaranteed permanence under any circumstances.

Real Madrid remains entangled in multiple soap operas heading into the final stretch of the current season. The merengue bosses already seem to be thinking about the next soccer season with several decisions, like this provisional replacement of Carlo Ancelotti, aimed at completely renewing the first white team.
