Official: Mosquera's signing by Arsenal directly affects Real Madrid

The center-back developed at Valencia is officially a new player for the English team

Real Madrid anticipates a domino effect that could end up being favorable to its interests... although it's true that this chain has already started but would conclude in two years, when the white club's top brass complete one of its most desired signings in recent times.

Cristhian Mosquera's move to Arsenal, after a brief saga, is an operation much more important than it seems at first glance. Not only because the executives led by Florentino Pérez lose one of their "favorite" options to strengthen the center of the defense. The former Valencia center-back was well known in LaLiga for his great potential as a top-level footballer.

Now that he's already part of the Emirates Stadium locker room, Mikel Arteta is starting to face an overbooking in his center-back line. The arrival of the Spanish footballer in London could mean his approach to a starting role, causing the change in the sporting dynamics experienced so far in the Gunner squad.

Especially with a view to one of the main targets for the white squad in the coming seasons: William Saliba. From the Valdebebas offices, they believe that this move, prompted among others by Mikel Arteta himself, completely changes the outlook for the French center-back for the coming seasons in England.

Sticker swap

It's not that this signing has pushed him out of the starting line-up, but there are fewer chances that he can fulfill that role in every match next season. That's where the approaches devised from the Valdebebas offices would come into play, as they keep a close eye on the contract situation of Arsenal's "2".

William Saliba's contract with the English team ends in the summer of 2027. The pressure from Real Madrid around the French footballer, a close friend of Kylian Mbappé, would have led to the first attempts to present a contract renewal offer to block that plan. There are still no results, so the white club's top brass keep moving forward with their roadmap.

Real Madrid believes that, in the long term, Cristhian Mosquera's arrival will significantly affect William Saliba's future. Especially if the Spanish center-back shows all the quality he displayed in LaLiga, making Mikel Arteta have doubts about the members of his current central defense. Saliba's position as an undisputed starter would be in jeopardy.

Not so in Santiago Bernabéu locker room, which seems ready to welcome the "2" Gunner completely. Xabi Alonso has made it clear to the white club's leadership that Dean Huijsen is his only certainty in that position. That's why signings like William Saliba and Ibrahima Konaté, thanks to the three-center-back defense that appears in the club's future, are the most suitable.
