Ramón de Mon announces the key meeting for Modric's future and Xabi's stance

Ramón de Mon has revealed what Madrid and Xabi's vision is regarding Modric's continuity

Real Madrid are very alert to Luka Modrić's future, because his contract ends after the Club World Cup. It is still unknown what will happen, but several journalists have claimed that there are chances he will renew his contract. This would be a big surprise, because at the beginning of the season everyone thought it would be his last.

"These are decisive hours or days to know Modric's future. Everything depends on a meeting with Florentino. Respecting, of course, the information that has come out, I am not aware that Xabi Alonso has requested his continuity," explained Ramón on X.

This is how Ramón replied to the information that came out on Radio Marca. They claim that Xabi Alonso contacted Madrid to renew Luka. He knows him well because he played several years by his side, but it should not be forgotten that Luka turns 40 in September.

An honest conversation

For several seasons, Luka Modrić and Florentino Pérez have been negotiating face to face, without any intermediary. There is a lot of trust between them to do it this way, which is much easier. Moreover, the Croatian midfielder wants to come to an understanding with the club, he is not going to cause any problems regarding money or prominence.

Some journalists like Jorge Picón, from Relevo, claim that Modric's entourage expects to stay one more year at Real Madrid. That would be the player's dream, as he hopes to be present at the 2026 World Cup. In fact, he doesn't rule out retiring after that date, so he would be thrilled to play his last year at Madrid.

Anything can happen

It is very difficult to know what will happen, because it could be said that it is almost a personal decision of Florentino Pérez. The president has great affection and respect for Luka, who has become one of the club's greatest legends. For that reason, he would want him to leave in the best possible way.

What is confirmed is that if he stays, he will have a much more secondary role than he has been having.
