Raúl González's decision: without a team for the 2025-26 season and with a single wish
The Castilla coach will remain in Spain and will try to take over a top-level bench after the first dismissals
Raúl González Blanco, a true legend of Real Madrid, is experiencing a complicated moment in his coaching career. After hanging up his boots in 2015, he started coaching in the club's youth divisions with the hope that, someday, he would lead the first team. However, that dream, at least for now, has been put on hold.
After starting his journey with Cadete B and achieving important successes with the Juvenil, such as the historic 2019-20 UEFA Youth League, Raúl was promoted to Real Madrid Castilla. He did a good job there, although he couldn't achieve promotion to Segunda División, a key objective to establish himself.

An unexpected farewell and a missed opportunity
The trust that he could soon take charge of the first team was strong. In fact, according to sources close to him, Raúl even turned down an offer from Sevilla because he expected to be chosen to replace Carlo Ancelotti, at least during the Club World Cup. However, Real Madrid had other plans and ultimately opened the door for his departure.
As with Xabi Alonso, the demand for experience in major leagues has weighed heavily in the choice of coach. After Zidane's departure, the club opted for Ancelotti again and, later, for Alonso, who arrived with a brilliant European résumé.
Raúl then looked for new options outside Real Madrid. He was linked to Mirandés, a team that was watching his possible arrival if they were promoted to the top division, but promotion didn't happen and the club decided to go with Fran Justo. Raúl, eager to coach in the top division, was left without a seat.

Waiting for the desired opportunity in Spain
The problem is that most benches in LaLiga are already filled for next season. That's why Raúl has decided to stay in Spain and wait. His idea is to keep an eye on any dismissals so he can present himself as a candidate to lead a team in trouble.
Recently, he was also mentioned as a candidate to coach the Spanish under-21 national team, but the RFEF went with Julen Guerrero, who has more experience in the youth divisions. This closed another door for Raúl.
Given the situation, Raúl González will have to be patient. The 2025-26 season will start with coaching positions practically filled. His only wish is for opportunities to come and for him to be ready to seize them when they arrive.
