Real Madrid and RFEF Have an Agreement, AI's Role in New Refereeing
The conversations between the white club and the Federation have yielded a very striking result
One of the most controversial issues involving Real Madrid is refereeing. The reaction of the white club to the conversations about the future of the referees in our country has led to the invitation of the entity, along with other teams, to discuss it. In this context, Real Madrid and RFEF are in constant communication to improve the state of the refereeing system.
One of the most striking measures, reported by the newspaper As, involves the use of artificial intelligence. This tool offers multiple possibilities in every sense, facilitating the work of many professions currently. It could also do so with refereeing as long as its application is accurate.

According to the aforementioned media outlet, the entity presided over by Florentino Pérez and the organization led by Rafael Louzán would have reached an agreement on artificial intelligence. Because LaLiga and RFEF themselves "are studying the implementation of an AI tool" to make key decisions regarding referee appointments.
In that sense, this "AI tool" mentioned by the newspaper As "would decide which referees are in charge of which matches and which of them avoid relegation". Each season, the CTA decides which referees are relegated to officiate Second Division matches based on the statistics compiled from all the matches officiated during the previous campaign.
A Notable Advance
In addition to entrusting that criterion to the most experienced members of the Technical Committee of Referees, LaLiga and RFEF are considering the intervention of artificial intelligence to facilitate that decision-making. Faced with the possible implementation of a tool like the one described by the newspaper As, "Real Madrid is in favor" of that hypothetical decision.
The Spanish soccer employers' association, as well as RFEF, are studying the implementation of several changes in the refereeing system. The constant controversies and polemics experienced in each matchday add to the long shadow of the 'Negreira case'... a refereeing scandal that is still under investigation in the Provincial Court of Barcelona.

Real Madrid advocates for the reform and reconstruction of the refereeing group and system to eliminate any suspicion and link with the 'Negreira case'. LaLiga and RFEF, albeit with some resistance, are taking the first steps to modify the state of affairs in Spanish refereeing. The inclusion of artificial intelligence would have the support of the merengue leadership.
In any case, it remains to be seen what result this study proposal managed by RFEF and LaLiga will yield. Both entities are committed to adding artificial intelligence in a decision-making process that generates much commotion both inside and outside the refereeing group each season.
