Real Madrid Made a ‘Click’ Last Night, One Fact Proves It: 'Team for the First Time'

Real Madrid turn things around with a Champions League statistic that shows a big change

Real Madrid's progress in the Champions League this season wasn't going very well. Despite being the current defender champions, they had already been defeated in three games. Lille, Milan and Liverpool had left Ancelotti's men with no more room for error to avoid being eliminated.

Many were wondering what had led the Whites to sow so many doubts. And there was one fact that made it clear that things were not working out as expected. Until now, they had run less than all their rivals in the Champions League.

But against Atalanta we saw a more united and committed team, working collectively. To such an extent that for the first time this season,  they ran more than their rivals in the Champions League. It is clear that a change has taken place and it was seen on the field.

On Cadena COPE they insisted that "It is the first Champions League match in which Real Madrid has run more than its rival." And they added that "this statistic tells you that it has been a collective effort." That seems to be the key, not only to beat Atalanta, but to start to get the team back on track.

A game that could mark a turning point for Real Madrid

In any other season, last night's game would've been just another Champions League triumph for Real Madrid. However, given the situation of the team, it was a more important game than one might imagine. So much so that it could mark a turning point.

Firstly, because they managed to move up the table and they are still dreaming of finishing in the top 8. But also because it was the first blow they have made. A victory, away from home, and against a team that was in great form.

It should be remembered that Atalanta had not lost a single game in the Champions League so far. In addition, they had only conceded one goal, which makes Ancelotti's three goals even more meritorious. And what's more, they did it with Vinícius and Rodrygo fresh from injury and with Mbappé withdrawing with discomfort.
