Real Madrid offers condolences for Diogo Jota, emotional statement after his death
The entity chaired by Florentino Pérez reacts to the sad news announced this morning
The passing of Diogo Jota, Liverpool forward, has completely halted the pace of world soccer. Everyone is closely following the development of the Club World Cup, a competition organized by FIFA that is providing moments of maximum competitiveness and brings surprises to consider for the next season.
However, the news of Diogo Jota's passing, which became known this very morning, has caused a remarkable wave of condolences for the family of the Liverpool striker, who was recently married. His marriage to Rute Cardoso was the culmination of a thirteen-year relationship and three children.

Given the shock caused by the passing of the red footballer and his brother, who was also traveling in the crashed car, Real Madrid has published a heartfelt official statement. "Real Madrid CF, its president, and its Board of Directors deeply mourn the passing of Diogo Jota, Liverpool FC player, and his brother André Silva, FC Penafiel player."
These are not the only words: "Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to their families, their loved ones, and their teammates and their clubs." The entity presided over by Florentino Pérez "joins in the immense grief of all soccer fans" over this tragic news. "Rest in peace", concludes the official Madrid statement.
Heartfelt recognition
The bond between Real Madrid and Diogo Jota was mainly based around Cristiano Ronaldo. The former player of the white squad was the "idol" of the Liverpool forward, as well as one of his "role models" both in sports and in his personal life.
During his time at Liverpool, Diogo Jota faced Real Madrid seven times. The Merengue squad claimed victory in five of those matches, one of them being the Champions League final held in Paris in May 2022. The victory recorded for the British squad occurred during the last group stage of the top continental competition.

In that match, also in the Champions League, Arne Slot's pupils won 2-0 against the team coached by Carlo Ancelotti. Diogo Jota did not participate in that match. The draw that completes those seven encounters was recorded during the 20/21 campaign, when Zinédine Zidane was in charge of the Merengue squad.
The match at Anfield Road, corresponding to the second leg of the quarterfinals, ended in a goalless draw that validated the result of the first leg. Back then, Real Madrid won 3-1 at the Alfredo di Stéfano, qualifying for the Champions League semifinals against Chelsea.
