The Reason Why Florentino Chooses Wirtz over Fernandes, Plan OK

Wirtz is Madrid's main target to strengthen the midfield and Florentino knows why

Real Madrid Seeks a Replacement for Luka Modric, who will presumably leave the team at the end of the season after more than a decade as the main "boss" of the white team's midfield. The chosen one is Florian Wirtz.

Modric, who has formed, alongside Toni Kroos and Casemiro, one of the best midfields Madrid has had throughout its history, is a legend, but last year he already took on a secondary role that led him to pace himself significantly.

The recent signings of Eduardo Camavinga and Jude Bellingham have undoubtedly improved Ancelotti's squad, but Madrid wants to continue strengthening its team and in the noble floor of Santiago Bernabéu all eyes are on Wirtz, the Bayer Leverkusen player who became an essential piece of Xabi Alonso's team last season.

Versatile, but Expensive

Wirtz, who can play as an inside midfielder, attacking midfielder, and even start from the wing, is one of the most gifted players currently in European soccer, although his multifunctionality presents a financial drawback.

Wirtz is under contract until 2027 and his market price far exceeds 100M. Florentino would be forced to make a significant outlay for a footballer who is considered the president's latest great desire. His new "top-tier."

Wirtz's arrival would offer a multitude of options for Madrid to play in the midfield, where he could form one of the most electrifying duos on the continental scene alongside Bellingham. Additionally, he could also be of great help in the defensive aspect, assisting Aurélien Tchouaméni and Fede Valverde.

For these reasons, Madrid would rule out a transfer of Bruno Fernandes, a Manchester United player who, at 30 years old, doesn't fit into Florentino's transfer policy, which has been focused on prioritizing youth over experience for years.
