The star who could say goodbye to Real Madrid due to the offer made by Fenerbahçe
For several days now, it has been known that Real Madrid has closed its transfer market. With a full squad, the club has little room to maneuver to sign another reinforcement. However, as we know at Defensa Central, this could change given the interest Fenerbahçe has shown in Andriy Lunin.
The Ukrainian goalkeeper has been on the radar of several teams for multiple seasons due to the quality he has shown. In the 23/24 campaign, for instance, Lunin was the starting goalkeeper after Thibaut Courtois suffered a serious injury. Wanting to have a more prominent role, this hasn't been possible because Courtois remains Real Madrid's starting goalkeeper.
Given Fenerbahçe's interest, Lunin could be tempted to leave the team. His departure, however, would only be possible if Real Madrid opens the door for him. The club, despite Lunin's desire, knows that his exit would force them to make a move for another goalkeeper.
Interest from Türkiye
Having been part of Real Madrid since 2018, Lunin went through several loan spells before settling into the team in 2020. Although his role has always been as a backup, Lunin has shown his talent when given the opportunity. At 26 years old, Lunin has managed to meet Real Madrid's demands.
Even so, with Courtois as the starter, Lunin is looking to join a team where he can be a key player. Fenerbahçe has emerged as a very interesting option for the Ukrainian. This is due to José Mourinho, who as coach of the Turkish side has managed to improve the squad's level.
With the goal being to secure their place in the Champions League, Mourinho knows he needs a reliable goalkeeper. While his departure could be complicated, Fenerbahçe is willing to offer a loan with a purchase option. This is so both the club and the player can decide, at the end of the season, whether to continue together.
The Lunin question
Although Lunin wants to be the starter at Real Madrid, this is unlikely to happen. Even so, his departure doesn't depend entirely on his decision. The Madrid club has to find a goalkeeper with a similar profile to accept the Ukrainian's departure.
