De Gea speaks out about his failed transfer to Real Madrid many years later

The goalkeeper assures that when his career ends, he will talk about what happened during his failed attempt to play at the Bernabéu

David de Gea has broken his silence. Years after that failed signing by Real Madrid, the goalkeeper has spoken about the matter in an interview with Cronache Di Spogliatoio. He hasn't given all the details, but he left a statement that made waves.

"At the end of my career I'll talk about what happened that day," he said. He was clear, without getting into controversies. He said it with the calm of someone who has already moved on.

That episode, in the summer of 2015, was marked by a fax that didn't arrive on time. Madrid had it done, but the paperwork turned into a nightmare. In the end, De Gea stayed at Manchester United.

A different destination: Florence

Now, the Spanish goalkeeper shines at Fiorentina. After more than ten years at Old Trafford, he decided to seek a change of scenery. He rejected offers from Arabia and other Premier clubs.

"I didn't see myself at any other English team but United," he confessed. That's why he chose Florence. He doesn't regret it.

In his first season, he has been one of the most outstanding goalkeepers in Serie A. He feels happy, comfortable, and valued: "I'm very happy here. It's possible this is one of my last contracts," he stated.

De Gea also spoke about his beginnings. About how he went from being the third goalkeeper of the reserve team to a starter at Atlético de Madrid.

"It was a miracle. I was there to train and ended up playing because of injuries to the two main goalkeepers," he recalled. That's where it all started.

Messi, Cristiano, and the national team

The former United player also spoke about the two soccer giants: Messi and Cristiano. He shared a locker room with the Portuguese, whom he described as "a competitive beast".

About Messi, he shared an anecdote: "I elbowed him thinking I'd knock him to the ground... and he didn't move an inch!" He claims he seemed to be made of marble.

Meanwhile, regarding the national team, he doesn't close the door. Although he sees it as complicated: "If they call me, I'll be ready. But it's not something that keeps me up at night," he said.

He also had words for Ferguson, who signed him after seeing him live: "He only missed two matches in his life. One was to see me".

De Gea is at peace, but he doesn't forget. The day he tells the story about Madrid, everything will be better understood.
