Mikel Arteta's plan to take Rodrygo from Real Madrid for €75M

Arsenal would not have given up on signing the forward from Osasco

Real Madrid keeps trying to find a solution for the saga created around Rodrygo Goes. The future of the "11" verdeamarelo is still unclear, given the notable decline in his sporting performance during the final stretch of last season. He also hasn't managed to turn the situation around with the Club World Cup.

Indeed, Xabi Alonso tried to approach the South American striker in the early rounds of that competition, but he soon realized that the situation was practically impossible to change. That's why the coaching staff and the executives led by Florentino Pérez, as we've confirmed at Defensa Central, agreed: they'd let him leave without reservations this very summer.

From the Valdebebas offices, they won't stand in the way if Rodrygo Goes presents an offer and decides to leave. Most of those offers come from the Premier League, notes Mario Cortegana, "through intermediaries". At first, Rodrygo's camp "turned them all down" through his father and agent, because the goal was to redirect his career within the merengue sports discipline.

It hasn't been possible, so "they've spoken with more than one or two clubs. We highlight Arsenal because it was the one we had the most confirmed conversations with" regarding the possibility of his signing. In that sense, the barrier that separated Rodrygo from denying his transfer to considering it as a serious option has been broken.

Still valid

"Arteta and his staff are big admirers of Rodrygo, they believe they have a good plan for him", aiming to secure his signing in the final weeks of this transfer window. Indeed, "they believe that if it comes to talking to him and convincing him, Arteta will do it". However, not all the responsibility for his departure rests on the gunner coaches.

Mario Cortegana reveals that Arsenal understands that it's the striker from Osasco himself who must "take that step. For now, we have to wait for him to do it to see how events unfold" regarding his possible departure from the Spanish capital. Not only the persuasion of the Basque coach would come into play.

From the upper echelons of Emirates Stadium, they understand that the proximity of the 2026 World Cup would act as the main attraction to provoke that change. Mario Cortegana also notes that the clubs seeking to secure Rodrygo Goes's signing wouldn't be willing to pay any price for the footballer's departure.

Given the situation, "if I were Real Madrid, I'd ask for more than 70-80 million. Seeing how the market is, they could easily ask for more than 80" million, but the significant loss of prominence, as well as the notable drop in his performance, would have reduced his value.
